A really fun weekend
We had a really fun weekend. We ended up making the trip to Indianapolis to visit Matt’s family. We left about 10 am. on Saturday, so the roads seemed clear and we had no problems even though the 2 days before weren’t the best, weather-wise with snow and ice both places and in-between. We timed it so Luke would be ready for a nap and he slept just about the whole way. We have never had him in the car for more than a ½ hour or at a time so we were hoping he’d do well in the car. On the way, we stopped for a late breakfast at Denny’s in Shelbyville. Luke had been asleep for about 1-1/2 hours so we thought we were safe to stop. We haven’t even taken Luke to a restaurant since he has been able to sit up in a high chair by himself so this was another new adventure for him. He loved being able to sit up at the table. He felt like such a big boy. He had plenty to look at and he did eat some fruit and cheerios too. There was a little girl who was 17 mos next to us so he watched her too.
It ended up taking us an hour there, so we got to Matt’s aunt Bettie’s around 1 or so. They have a beautiful house and after unloading (it looked like we were staying a month!) we visited awhile before the first batch of people came. Their daughter Katie and a friend from college came home from Purdue and Emily (sr. in high school) was getting ready for a dance that evening. Uncle Jeff had the weekend off-poor guy we had to invade his house on his weekend off, didn’t we? The girls are so pretty and grown up now, they were just little girls when I first met them. Matt’s grandma Polly and Aunt Karen came, then Uncle Tom, Aunt Virginia and cousin Jake. We figured out that Jake was just about a year old when I first met him. I still think of him as a little boy, but he is now a teenager and a very sweet and polite one too! He did so good with Luke and Luke really liked him a lot! Cousin Amy and her boyfriend and Karen’s husband Ben came a little later. We had plenty of good food and desserts and lots of visiting and stories. Luke did great. He wasn’t into taking a nap in the pack and play but since he slept so much on the way, he was good to go until around 8:30 or so and then promptly went to sleep. He did wake up once in the night, unsure of where he was but went back to sleep and did fine. He is really starting to try to pull up now all the time, to his knees. He is now trying to put one leg up but hasn’t really tried to stand all the way yet. Everyone commented on how happy he is and well behaved. He really was a good boy all weekend. He loved his cousins Emily, Katie, Amy and Jake! He got lots of hugs and kisses from his aunts and uncles too! Aunt Bettie wanted to keep his shape sorter because it makes fun noises!
Sunday, Luke got up for good around 7. Bettie made a wonderful breakfast and Jeff got donuts for everyone and we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and got to visit more. Luke got to see a big doggy and was fascinated with him. We left about 11:30 and headed home. We stopped at a Mc Donald’s in Batesville around 1:30. We thought about calling Cindy and Eric but we figured they were probably getting ready to come to Hamilton anyway if they were going to Chris’ birthday party. We got home by 3 and we were all really tired. Luke was so happy to be home, he just kept crawling around and making his happy shriek-y noise. He had a bottle, took a nap and I went to the store so we would have food for the week. Later in the evening we all ate our dinner and played a bit. Luke got tired early, so we gave him a bath and he crashed. I crashed early too trying to watch the Academy Awards.
I am also excited that I am now going to work at Jazzercise for sure 2 Saturday mornings (8:15 class) per month (this month 3) so hopefully, this will get me motivated to try to make more classes-at least one per week- because I need this for me! As Luke gets older it will be easier to do this. I just like to spend as much time as I can with him. We are also getting a team together at Jazzercise for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life May 31st/June 1st. I am excited about this because it is a very fun and rewarding experience.
This week will be just trying to get things done before Matt leaves for Washington. He leaves Sunday and will be back Friday. I know I won’t get anything accomplished while he is gone. It will be enough just taking care of Luke and working and getting him to daycare and back myself. He has his 9 month dr appt. next Friday (he will actually be 10 months old.
I added photos to the 9 month album: including photos of Luke and cousin Sarah. It is funny trying to take their photo. Luke just wouldn’t smile at all. They kept trying to take books from each other and wouldn’t look at the camera at the same time. There are also photos of Luke's last day in the infant room and Ms. Teresa and Miss Kathy. Also, added photos from Indy.
Photo to the left is of Luke and his buddy Jake!
